If we were on a desert island….. …..or for some reason had but one technique to help us human beings, I would recommend
MEDITATION –a tool to help mind, body, relationships, and so much more…. and even the world … yes, the latter, literally – were there enough meditators.
The potential personal benefits of meditation include improved cardiovascular & immune health, and increased ability to regulate emotions, concentrate, become self-aware, feel positive, and slow the aging process. But what about the world?
I began meditating during my first year of college. I learned Transcendental Meditation (TM), the technique developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918 –2008). The idea, beyond the individual benefits of TM, was that if everyone or many would meditate, we could achieve world peace: Indeed, I thought! But how to make a world of meditators? That would be the challenge.
I was exposed to Deepak Chopra when became involved in the TM movement in 1985 and I followed Deepak’s work after he went out on his own.
Flash forward a couple of decades. I have met Deepak Chopra three times — briefly– but once very synchronistically* when he just happened to be down the hall from me in a hotel in Delhi! I ran up to him like a giddy teenager, and I am still simply a BIG FAN of his! But I also have great respect and admiration for him. Guess whose “brand” of meditation I am going to recommend, if you haven’t a meditation practice already? Yes, Deepak’s. How? Here’s the best part – twofold:
- There’s a FREE 21-day introduction to meditation offered several times a year. Watch for it at https://chopracentermeditation.com/
- Deepak has answered my question: How to make a world of meditators? By teaming up with Oprah Winfrey. Who else could come closer to influencing more people?
Rx=Meditate. Try it, You WILL like it. (And, btw, you or anyone CAN do it – though many feel they cannot).
*I’ll discuss synchronicity in a later blog.
